Focus on Locally-Made Goods

Curated by Chanelle Courtney

The eclectic goods found in Cartwheels represent the talents of local and regional artisans. Many of the offerings are one-of-a-kind, vintage, or repurposed items produced by people who care deeply about their craft and enjoy having the opportunity to share their work in a gallery with the same heartfelt motivation. Cartwheels also offers a selection of manufactured art, gifts, and décor focused on supporting small, local producers. Owner Chanelle Courtney offers this collection showcasing a wide variety of media and methods, including some of her own work.

Courtney grew up in Phoenix where the influence of her father’s furniture store prompted her to study interior design and then work for her father. Since moving to the Verde Valley in 1981, she has continued to pursue her passion, working at Western Heritage Furniture as well as several local art galleries. She was managing Sky Fire gallery in Jerome when its owner decided to close. She wanted to continue working in the gallery world, and had the good fortune of meeting up with Kelsey Upton. She and Upton started a partnership at what was then North Bend Studio, which has evolved into Cartwheels. Upton has since left the area in pursuit of other goals, but Courtney continues to connect local artists and craftspeople with patrons who value and support their work.

We look forward to seeing you at Cartwheels the next time you’re in Old Town Cottonwood!
